This is Your Brain on Music

01.09.12 | Baylin Artists Manegement

Coming to an NPR station near you! Listen to Daniel Levitin, NY Times bestselling author of This Is Your Brain on Music, discuss music and science with Alex de Grassi, Grammy Award-nominated Fingerstyle Guitarist.

Ever wonder what's going on in your brain when you tune in to your favorite radio station or hum that song stuck in your head? Humans have been creating and enjoying music for thousands of years, but what really creates the experience? Is the brain of a musician different than the brains of the rest of us? Join us as Levitin and De Grassi jam, chat and foot tap their way through the story of "Music and the Mind Machine."

The conversation was recorded before a live audience at San Francisco's historic Commonwealth Club on November 3, 2011.  Daniel Levitin is a professor of neuroscience and psychology at McGill University in Montreal where he runs the Laboratory for Music Perception. Alex de Grassi illustrates the conversation with short musical excerpts.  The show will be broadcast on 250 NPR affiliates (check your local listing for scheduling) and can also be seen on YouTube.
